Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty – SERP
SERP was established by the government of Andhra Pradesh which was reorganised on 2014 and divided into Telangana SERP and Andhra Pradesh SERP. It works to enable poor family in the rural of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to come out of poverty and remain out of it through social mobilisation and improvement of livelihoods. It extensively works on a comprehensive multidimensional poverty alleviation strategy. It has become the unique model which has been adopted by Aajeevika (National Rural Livelihoods Mission) at the National level in India.
SERP and Kovel
We have shared the path for quite long since 2001 with
4 extra-ordinary projects. Extensive support was offered in community
mobilisation to form women Self Help Groups, their higher-level federation,
uplifting livelihoods activities by facilitating formation of co-operatives and
supporting them at their initial stages. Trainings and Capacity building has
remained an essential support in promoting livelihoods activity, promoting
non-pesticidal management of agriculture to reduce the input costs and increase
the yield. Also support at various stages of supply chains.
National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development – NABARD
NABARD is an apex Development Financial Institution (DFI) in India established in 1982 carved out of RBI. It finances and refinances credit for promoting the various developmental activities in rural areas. Their works revolve around financial, developmental and supervising activities to building an empowered and financially inclusive rural India. In nutshell it touches every aspect of rural economy from infrastructure, credit planning, supervision of Cooperative Banks and Regional Rural Banks (RRBs), Designing Schemes and their implementation, capacity building as well as marketing.
NABARD and Kovel
The journey marked its beginning on 2011. Essential financial and management support was extended to promote innovative technological intervention for value addition to the NTFP products collected which helped the community in realizing higher price of their produce. We have walked side by side in strategizing the way to utilise best of the available resources, capacity building and trainings were done to improve knowledge on farm and non-farm activities. Helped in improving the community-based organisations to make them self-sustainable.
Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana National Rural Livelihood Mission – Day-NRLM
National Rural Livelihoods Mission(NRLM) was launched on June 2011 by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India. It is poverty alleviation program focused to promote self-employment and community organisation of rural poor, inspired by the SERP model. With the mission is to bring 7 Crore rural poor households, across 600 districts, 6000 blocks, 2.5 lakh Gram Panchayats and 6 lakh villages under the umbrella of self-help groups (SHGs) and higher level of federation and uplift their livelihoods by promoting collectives in period of 8-10 years.

Appreciable support was rendered in the areas of
community mobilisation, promoting higher level community federation,
collectivisation, strengthening of institution of forest dependent tribal
families and capacity building. Management and planning support in nurturing
the supply chain for procurement processing and marketing.
Jamsetji Tata Trust, Mumbai
Tata Trusts by the Tata Group of Companies is amongst the India’s oldest, non-sectarian philanthropic organization working with the purpose of developing the community for more than 100 years. They have been channelizing huge funds in various community development programmes across the country through grant-making, direct implementation and co-partnership strategies, the Trusts support and drive innovation in the areas of healthcare and nutrition; water and sanitation; energy; education; rural livelihoods; natural resource management; urban poverty alleviation; enhancing civil society and governance; media, arts, crafts and culture; and diversified employment.
Jamsetji Tata Trust and Kovel
Financial support was rendered with grants from Tata Trust for institution building, capacity building, quality & quantity enhancement of NTFP, value addition at household as well as Community Based Organization (CBO) level, conservation & regeneration of economically important species like Gum Karaya and collective initiatives.
Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Ltd. (TRIFED)
The Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) is a national level apex organization administered by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, came into existence in 1987. The organization works for the socio-economic development of tribal people in the country as a facilitator and service provider for marketing their products at national and international levels and other services around it. Their works also involves capacity building, sensitization and promoting community organizations.

We have shared our paths in 2 projects since 2006. Essential
and strategic moves were taken for scientific intervention, more practical
approach and imparting skills for collection of honey and gum picking. Extended
support empowering the community with purposive Kits and educating them to use
it. This allowed to upgrade the quality of the product, diversify the by
product range and finally better marketing.

They do this by sharing and developing skills and ideas, facilitating organisational and social change and building awareness.

Received research and academic competence to support on market intelligence and essential technical support by studying and analysis the existing value-chains which helped to strategize. Department for International Development – DFID
The Department for International Development – DFID is the British government department responsible for Britain’s contribution towards international efforts for the elimination of poverty . They have channelled their services in the poorest countries and middle-income countries for poverty reduction and sustainable development. DFID India has staff based in New Delhi, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Kolkata and Hyderabad. The idea is to partner with developing country government and other international development agencies to carry out and support development activities.

Support offered for promotion and enhance sustenance of community-based organisation with special focus on women empowerment. Great insights on research activities to understand and enhance the value chain for better price realisation and market prospects. This greatly impacted on the bargaining power of the women with broadened marketing opportunities for their products.
Society for Energy, Environment and Development (SEED)
Society for Energy, Environment and Development (SEED) has been contributing to improve the quality of rural India through Research and Development of innovative, modern, viable and environmentally friendly technologies for food processing creating the entire supply chain “Lab-to-Land”. It largely promotes solar drying technology across the country. They have successfully designed and developed Solar Cabinet Air Dryer.

SEED brought an extraordinary technological revolution by their expertise in Research and Development of customised drying technology for the tribal commodities like gums, herbs and minor forest produce at affordable prices. Extended their contribution in providing essential training on using the technologies. This has resulted in higher quality value added products fetching better prices. Thus, enhancing the livelihoods of the beneficiaries
Center for World Solidarity – CWS
CWS is a public charitable trust involved in development activities since 1992, they have been working with many grass root level NGOs in six states of India. Partnering, nurturing and collaborating with Voluntary Organisation and other stakeholders they are focused to contribute to Human Dignity, Sustainable Livelihood and People Centred Governance to form an equitable society.

Kovel offered its services to provide on-site technical support and training of gum pickers group for scientific sustainable methods of collection, storage, processing and value addition. Valuable support was received in planning and facilitation for smooth assessment and exposure of best practices.
Canada Fund for Local Initiative, India – CFLI
The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) is a contribution program that is delivered through Canada’s missions abroad. Managed by the High Commission of Canada in New Delhi, its funds result oriented, high impact projects carried out by the local authorities/ agencies/ organisations in areas of sustainable economic growth, food security, environment and many more socio-economic development aspects.

Integrated Tribal Development Agency – ITDA
They are institution under control of the State Governments working generally in the areas- blocks/ tehsils with special demographic profile of more than 50% of tribal population. As an institution they have made constant contributions for delivery of public goods and services to the schedule tribes. With the aim of socio-economic development of tribal communities, they work for best utilisation of resources and effective implementation of various interventions and programs for the tribal.

Nurturing the root of Kovel, ITDA supported in research activities to explore the indigenous knowledge which already existed in the community to identify their own potential as well as an information database in form an inventory to bring together for institutionalisation of gum pickers from the villages of Sithampeta of Srikakulam District of Andhra Pradesh
Care India is focusing on alleviating poverty and social injustice through well planned and comprehensive projects which strategically emphasize on promoting quality healthcare, inclusive education, gender equitable and sustainable livelihood opportunities and disaster relief and preparedness and response. Care India through its community empowerment projects has empowered poor and disadvantaged members of the tribal society and also supported the Self-help groups and pioneered in promoting MACS with support from partner organizations in AP.

Care India has supported in strengthening Community Based Organizations. Through capacity building activities the project has significantly contributed in the field of health, education, household income, food security for 4542 tribal families.
National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB)
To promote medicinal plants sector, Government of India set up National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) in November 2000. NMPB is an apex national body that was set up to develop an appropriate mechanism for coordination between various ministries/ departments/ organization and implementation of support policies/programs for overall (conservation, cultivation, trade and export) growth of medicinal plants sector both at the Central /State and International level. In NMPB’s promotional scheme mainly includes survey, conservation, herbal gardens, extension activities, demand-supply studies, R&D, value addition etc.

NMPB has supported in disseminating knowledge to the
tribal for their economic sustenance and conservation of the resources through
training to create awareness on the scientific harvesting methods of various
medicinal plants, also intensive inputs imparted to tribal on sustainable
forest resource management, potential of medicinal herbs marketing,
identification of genuine plant, local and scientific uses, name of the useful
part, ideal time of collection, method of collection, post harvesting
techniques, need of improved tools and its usage, regeneration techniques,
quality control techniques.

United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) concentrates its financial and technical assistance in three key areas: reducing women’s poverty, ending violence against women, and promoting gender equality in democratic governance. UNIFEM offers financial and technical support to programs that are designed to encourage the advancement and empowerment of women and gender equality. UNIFEM under various programme working in partnership with national governments, regional intergovernmental mechanisms, civil society, the private sector in different countries.

Girijan Cooperative Corporation Ltd. (GCC)
The Girijan Co-operative Corporation Limited, Visakhapatnam established in 1956, is an undertaking of the Govt. of AP working for the Socio-economic upliftment of the Tribals (economically the most backward community of the state) and also for protecting the environment through regeneration of species of Minor Forest Produce. To protect tribal from exploitative middlemen, petty traders, GCC has established a mutually beneficial relationship between tribal and rest of the world. GCC functions as a marketing arm of the tribals while procuring quality Minor Forest Produce (MFP) from the tribals and sell the same to their best advantage and also ensuring pure and natural products to the consumer at reasonable prices.

GCC and Kovel has worked together to served tribal through various projects from the inception projects of the Kovel. The projects include collection of information of NTFP/ MAPs, preparation of Herbarium, procuring NTFPs and marketing them with descent return to the tribal community.
